As I’ve been reflecting and praying, I’ve been struck again by how quickly the world around us is changing and what that means for the kind of leaders we’re called to form. The next decade will look very different from the last, and by 2035, we’ll be leading in a whole new landscape.
Here are just a few of the shifts already shaping that future:
1. A new generational workforce.
By 2035, Millennials, Gen Z, and the first wave of Gen Alpha will make up nearly 80% of the global workforce (World Economic Forum). These generations are bringing new expectations of flexibility, wellbeing, technology, and purpose-driven work. They want authenticity, not hierarchy. They value collaboration, not competition. As leaders, we’re being invited to model a different kind of authority, one grounded in integrity, empathy, and trust.
2. A seismic shift in women’s influence.
Over the coming decade, women are set to inherit more than 70% of the world’s $124 trillion intergenerational wealth transfer (Forbes, CNBC). This represents a massive cultural and spiritual opportunity and responsibility. Many of these women are passionate about using their influence for good, and we have the privilege of helping them discern how to lead and give in ways that reflect Kingdom values.
3. A Church in need of resilient, Christlike leaders.
In the midst of all this change, the Church in Australia is facing both challenge and opportunity. Our communities are more complex, more diverse, and more questioning than ever before. The leaders we’ll need are those who are deeply anchored in Jesus, women and men of character, courage, and humility who can lead in uncertainty and serve with compassion.

These shifts remind me why Arrow exists. Leadership today is not about keeping up; it’s about being deeply connected to Jesus. It’s not about influence for its own sake; it’s about being formed for faithfulness. The kind of leadership Australia will need in 2035 is being shaped right now in living rooms, classrooms, churches, and workplaces, as leaders choose to be led more by Jesus, and lead more like him.
